Description
The name "Kuronawa", literally translated as black ropes, highlights the exceptional quality of this sake. Historically, round wooden barrels, known as "Tawara," were used by the Japanese to transport and store rice. During the Edo period, high-quality rice was bound with black ropes and shipped to Edo (modern-day Tokyo) and Kōbō (the Kyoto and Osaka regions). In modern times, Shōnai rice, a renowned variety, continues to be tied with black ropes, symbolizing its premium quality. The term "Kuronawa" becomes a marker of top-tier rice, underscoring the sake's superior craftsmanship and high standards.
